NIGHTS AT HOME IN THE DARK OF THE COUNTRYSIDE

2 Tough and Crazy people get together and consider life through the Oracle of the Animated Gif. They contemplate Night at home with only one light on and crickets in the long grasses. Autumn edging in and the phones silent.

On Hanukkah, the first dark night,
Light yourself a candle bright.
I’ll you, if you will me invite
To dance within that gentle light.

~Nicholas Gordon, poemsforfree.com

He that has light within his own clear breast May sit i’ the centre, and enjoy bright day: But he that hides a dark soul and foul thoughts Benighted walks under the mid-day sun; Himself his own dungeon.
John Milton

Dreaming permits each and everyone of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives.
William Dement

May you have warm words on a cold evening, a full
moon on a dark night, and the road downhill all
the way to your door.

Tis the night – the night Of the grave’s delight, And the warlocks are at their play; Ye think that without The wild winds shout, But no, it is they – it is they.

THE MOON BEHIND CLOUD

2 Tough and Crazy people get together and consider life through the Oracle of the Animated Gif. They contemplate the Night of the Birthday. They have eaten cake baked fresh in the Turbo Oven. They have planned the trip to Lennox Head and the party at Ilnam Winery . They work on their computers and HE opens e-cards from AUSTLIT. But the Moon is unseen behind cloud. There are lights at the Jets Football Club in the Valley and the necklace of houses lit on the Heights. But the Moon is behind the Clouds – for now. What else is behind the Clouds ?

The hazy, cloudless skies of Indian Summer. Leaves scurrying down the street
before the wind. The cold shiver from an arctic blast. Indian Summer. The last
warmth of the sun. Chilly mornings and glorious warm afternoons. The Harvest
Moon. The Hunter’s Moon. The Rainy Season. Dry corn stalks clattering in the
wind. The touch of frost on grass and window pane. The smell of burning leaves.
–   Keith C. Heidorn

Once upon a Lammas Night
When corn rigs are bonny,
Beneath the Moon’s unclouded light,
I held awhile to Annie…
The time went by with careless heed
Between the late and early,
With small persuasion she agreed
To see me through the barley…
Corn rigs and barley rigs,
Corn rigs are bonny!
I’ll not forget that happy night
Among the rigs with Annie!
–   Robert Burns

Swift as thought it was done – in an instant he fled Behind the church portal to hide; And brighter and brighter the moon-beam was shed, As the dance they still shudderingly plied; But at last they began to grow tired of their fun, And they put on their shrouds, and slipped off, one by one, Beneath, to the homes of the dead

DARK AND STORMY NIGHT WITH ALMOST FULL MOON

2 Tough and Crazy people get together and consider life through the Oracle of the Animated Gif. They contemplate the completion of this birthday on a dark and stormy night with the almost full moon. The Cottage Doors are closed. There is a Palmer spider out the back wanting to come in out of the cold and wind. The Star Wagon ain’t going no place till the driveway dries out a little. The Girls are making Phone calls to say Happy Birthday and Plan visits in May. They consider the pulse of the life lived on The Hill and the passing of the years. Some birthdays are MELLOW.

A true man does not need to romance a different girl every night, a true man romances the same girl for the rest of her life.

Someday I would like to
stand on the moon, look
down through a quarter of a
million miles of space and
say, “There certainly is a
beautiful earth out tonight.”
– Lt. Col. William H. Rankin, American author

An autumn night… don’t think your life, didn’t matter.
Basho

Better to sit all night than to go to bed with a dragon.

I pray the gentle hands may guide my feet; I ask for kind commands from
voices sweet; At night a stable warm with scented hay, where, safe from
every harm, I’ll sleep till day.

“If you play with the vultures at night, you can’t soar with the eagles at dawn.”

I love thee – I love thee,

‘Tis all that I can say

It is my vision in the night,

My dreaming in the day.

~Thomas Hood
